There are numerous Queensland ‘food affairs’ I have had, but the one that instantly comes to mind is New Years Eve over at Straddie with friends. A friend had caught a mackrel in the early hours of the morning which was cooked up for dinner that night, along with the fresh oysters from Straddie and the sweetest, freshest prawns I have ever tasted caught the night before……….ahhhhhhh

Favourite Queensland food experiences have always involved the first mangoes of the season, Moreton Bay Bugs, freshly caught and cooked mud crabs, strawberries from Wamuran, avocadoes from Glasshouse…There was a time I particularly enjoyed – staying at a friend’s place at Glasshouse, up on a hill, and in every direction was a mountain, and we were surrounded by avocado trees. Lots of fun was had by all…especially after the wine was opened…

    Dear Chutney Girl,
My Favourite QLD food experience would have to be the time that I cooked up the days catch in foil on the beach near false cape in fnq. There was an absolutely loaded stringy mango tree on the beach. I was mushing up the mangoes, then biting the top off them and drinking the nectar. The grunter we caught tasted magnificent also. I felt like Malcolm Douglas or bush tucker man.

Thanks Edmund. I had a quick look at the menu. How wonderful – Kangaroo, Emu, Spatchcock. And for the desserts – how good does Dark chocolate biscuit with wattleseed mouse, blood orange jelly and a cinnamon and blood orange sauce sound. I am sold. I am definitely adding this one to the list, perhaps for the next family birthday.

Nice initiative… I was hoping to get to the Show.

As one foodie to another… the Lockyer Arts Festival is on 13-16 January 2012. It will feature author and celebrity cook Lola Berry and author/ ABC’s Gardening Australia TV presenter Leonie Norrington.

The festival will be held in Gatton and will play host to some incredible celebrities, including Marcia Hines. We’d love to see you there also.

Hi Jacq – I have signed up for the updates on the Lockyer Arts Festival. It sounds interesting. I love the Lockyer Valley – could be pretty warm that time of year but I have put it in my calendar.
